Do I Need a Specific Type of Gourd for Painting?

by DoItYourself Staff

It will be easier painting a gourd with a smooth round shells than one with a warty exterior. However, there are no specific types of gourds that you can not paint. There are 2 types of textures for gourds: warty and smooth. When painting a gourd, it's better to use an acrylic latex based paint as it will cover the surface without beading up or sliding off the gourd's surface. Smooth surface gourds provide a better canvas for painting and decorations. Warty gourds may be used for different decoration ideas, but can also be painted.
