Do some drop ceiling tiles have asbestos in them?
Asbestos used to be used in building materials such as drop ceiling tiles to prevent fire from spreading throughout a building in the 19th and 20th centuries. As the 1980s began, asbestos began to be banned in all building materials. From the early 1990s onward, all ceiling tiles are made without asbestos. But if you are remodeling a home or office that has ceiling tiles that were installed before the early 1990s, then it is possible that they contain asbestos. In most cases, ceiling tiles containing asbestos are not marked. The best way to be sure if your ceiling tiles have asbestos is to have them tested by a certified asbestos testing lab.
