Do wood or vinyl window shutters fade?

by DoItYourself Staff

If you are trying to decide between wood and vinyl window shutters, consider how much sun exposure they will get. Wood is more likely to fade than vinyl. In synthetic vinyl material, the color is distributed throughout the entire piece of vinyl instead of only on the top layer. With wood shutters, the color is often stained or painted only on the outside layer. After a certain amount of time, the paint or stain on the wood will start to fade and look old. You will then need to repaint or stain again.
