Does Backer Board Need to Be Sealed?
While you don't always need to seal backer board, it sometimes make sense to do so. If you are installing backer board in an area that will be subject to a great amount of moisture, like in a shower, then it makes sense to put a waterproofing sealer on it. If you are installing it on the floor of your bathroom or kitchen, you probably do not have to seal it.
