Does Cork Have a High Rate of Sound Absorption?

by DoItYourself Staff

Cork has a high rate of sound absorption compared to the other flooring options on the market. When you walk on cork flooring, you will find that it is much more quiet underfoot than the other types of flooring. On the other hand, hardwood and laminate flooring carry noise not only from shoes, but from underlayment and material settling. If you walk on cork with hard shoes, you may not even be able to hear the footsteps. Try that with a laminate floor and you will most likely hear a very loud clicking coming across the floor, especially if you are on a lower level.
