Dog Poop: Train your Dog to Go Outside

by DoItYourself Staff

You need to potty train your dog to relieve itself outside in order to avoid dog poop indoors. Puppy potty training requires a lot of patience on your behalf, but it is worth it in the end. Dogs are creatures of habit so make sure you begin training them early.

Notice Signs

Before you begin puppy obedience training, you need to look out for signs that indicate your pets need to poop. These may include smelling a certain area several times, pacing the area fervently or squatting around the area

Take Action

You need to take action the instance your dog exhibits one of these signs. Quickly rush to your dog, scoop him and say, “Potty Outside”.

Give Command

Take your dog outside and wait. He will run around sniffing the ground, looking for a comfortable place. He may circle a particular area several times before he poops. As soon as he begins to relieve himself, give the command “Potty Outside” softly but firmly. Say it several times so he relates the words to the action.

Appraisal

Once your dog is finished, call him over and pat him or give him a dog treat.

Follow this procedure every time your dog wants to poop indoors. It won’t be long before he will want to poop outdoors.
