The options in door designs are absolutely endless. Whether it is the door to the front of your home or to your bedroom, it should convey who you are just as much as the rest of your home.

Material

The very first thing to consider is what material you prefer for your door. There are basically four different material types for you to choose from. 

• Solid Wood: The first consideration is real solid wood. This is a good option if you prefer something that is classic and will endure well over time. There are many types of wood to choose from and you should consider what other wood types are in your home so the flow is maintained. 

• Steel: The second option is steel. Steel can be great for front doors because of their sheer strength. If your home has a lot of steel or metals in it, this will fit in well.

• MDF: Third is medium density fiberboard (MDF). This is a more economical choice and can still be stylish and speak to your personality. 

You can also choose double pane glass, although privacy may be compromised, depending on location and use. 

Style

Probably the most fun part of shopping for a door that is right for you and your home is choosing the style of the door. There are so many options, it may be hard to choose. One thing you should consider is the architecture of the home. If you stray too far from the style of the home, the look will not flow right and may be a consideration when trying to resell the home. 

That being said, you should know the basic styles that there are to choose from and go from there. There is the basic slab style, which can look very simple and classy if done right. There is the arch type design, if you have a lot of angular lines in your home. There are also the ornate cathedral design styles.

Accessories

The accessories for your unique door are almost as important as the door itself so take your time choosing what the best fit is.  Things to consider are door knobs, weather stripping, kick plates, door jambs, door stops, panels, glass windows or anything else you want for your unique style.
