When repairing an appliance one should be concerned with safety, this is especially true when conducting dryer appliance repair. If you have any doubt in what you’re doing, do not hesitate to call in a professional, it is dangerous working with large electrical or gas appliances and may not be worth risking hurting yourself or the appliance further. Here are five short safety tips that will help you repair your dryer safely.
Unplug the Appliance
This may seem like a no brainer, but unplugging the dryer and turning off the circuit breaker should be the first step before doing any electrical repair work.
Reinstall the Wiring Correctly
Always reinstall the wires correctly per any wiring diagrams. Make sure they aren’t pinched, crossing any sharp areas, caught in a panel or between moving parts. If they are, you risk an electrical malfunction.
Replacing Parts
Always make sure you replace parts using the correct size and/or serial numbers. Using parts that are too big or too small risk further damaging your dryer.
Individual Safety
Above all else, be sure to protect yourself. If lifting heavy objects, ask someone to help you and communicate effectively so as not to drop the appliance and injure someone. Work in a well lit area. Don’t stick your hands in areas that you haven’t inspected, you risk cutting your hand on any protruding sharp objects – edges or screws.
