Duct Cleaning Services: Department Store vs Private Business

by DoItYourself Staff

There are many duct cleaning services that you can choose from. Before you make your choice, research your state requirements and get references from any of the companies you are considering. A few of these services will try to sell you on spraying chemicals in the ductwork. This has not been approved by the EPA, nor has it been shown to actually help keep down the dust nor kill any mold. Be careful to ask about the type of work a company does, before hiring them.

Department Store Cleaners

Many large stores offer duct cleaning. Before you begin, research EPA recommendations. Then, be sure that the people you hire are trained well. Although large stores may offer company reputation, they may try to sell you treatments you don't need. These companies are here to sell a service as part of their job. Be sure to set up an inspection first and have them provide you with a list of services and the cost of each service.

Private Owned Business

A business owner will have their reputation on the line when they complete work for you. However, you should always stick to checking references before using any service. Because privately owned business are focused on one task, there will not be an attempt to get you to install other services to worry about. Also, the equipment and knowledge should be better. Get a list of the items they will look at and how they will clean your homes ductwork and compare lists to ensure your price is customary pricing.
