Step 1—Choose the New Hardware
If you haven’t looked at knobs and pulls lately, you’ll be absolutely amazed and the number and variety of pieces available.
Do an online search first, just to get an idea of what you have to choose from, and then visit your local home improvement center.
Step 2 – Remove the Old Knobs
Look at the back of the drawer or cabinet door and see if you’ll need a Phillip’s head or a flat head screwdriver. Sometimes you can remove the knob by simply turning it counterclockwise, but other times you need to use a screwdriver. Save the bolt in the back of the handle.
Step 3 – Paint Drawer or Cabinet If Necessary
If your new hardware leaves areas of the cabinet uncovered that used to be covered, make sure the surface is even and doesn’t need a bit of touchup paint before you go on.
Step 4 – Install New Hardware
Make sure the new bolt is not too short and not too long. Use the old bolt if necessary.
