Eight Beautiful Shade Annuals For Your Garden

There are a number of annuals that thrive and provide vibrant colors in partial or full shade.

  1. Impatiens - These flowers are inexpensive and grow fast. Impatiens need water often, though are fairly resistant to insects and diseases. They come in a wide variety of colors, from white to orange to deep purple.
  2. Begonias - These are pretty basic flowers that come in shades of red and pink. They are also inexpensive and do well growing in containers.
  3. Caladiums - This is actually well-liked for its foliage rather than its flowers. Caladiums foliage is striking in pink, red and white.
  4. Fuchsia - Fuchsias are often sold in hanging baskets and they tend to be more expensive. They are gorgeous flowers, but can sometimes be a challenge to maintain.
  5. Pansy - Pansies are very cute flowers that require regular watering. They are hardy and can survive in tough conditions.
  6. Torenia - Torenia does best in moist soil and blooms all season in pink, purple or white. They thrive in containers and groupings, or they work great as an accent.
  7. Globe Amaranth - This is a beautiful round flower can grow in purple, magenta, pink, red and white. Globe Amaranth does well as an edge flower or in containers.
  8. Viola - Viola is an old favorite. If cut back after its first bloom, your plant will bloom again in the fall.
