Electric Stove: Cleaning the Drip Pans

by DoItYourself Staff

Cleaning electric stove drip pans doesn't have to be a big hassle if you clean them often and if they aren’t too dirty. But if you have had a really big spill and the drip pans are a mess, cleaning them can be a challenge. The following steps will assist you in performing this function.

Step 1 – Clean Regularly

Cleaning your drip pans about once a week will keep them looking their best, unless a big spill has made a mess of them.

Step 2 – For a Light Cleaning

For your weekly drip pan cleaning, soak them for about 15 minutes in a sink of hot, soapy water, scrub them lightly with a plastic scrub pad, then rinse and dry them. If your drip pans are only slightly dirty, you could also add them to a load of dishes in your dishwasher.

Step 3 – For a Heavier Cleanup

If you’ve had a really big spill or carbon deposits and your drip pans need more work, let them soak overnight in a large plastic bag with ¼ cup of ammonia. When you open the bag, be careful to open it slowly as the fumes will likely be quite strong. Carefully pour the solution out of the bag. Remove any residue with a steel wool pad, then rinse and allow the pans to dry.
