Energy Savings: Electric vs. Gas Washer and Dryer
If you want to save money on your energy bills, you should consider a combination washing machine and dryer — but will a gas washer dryer save you more money than an electric one? The truth may surprise you.
Gas Washer and Dryer
Gas washer dryers cost less to run than electric dryers. However, it is not always possible to connect a washer dryer to a gas line, as they are not always be available. Additionally, a venting system is a requirement for many washer dryer combo models, though not all of them, so it is important to check your individual model. If these things are not present, installing them can be expensive and inconvenient, and will probably cancel out any money you save on your energy bills. Generally speaking, however, gas is the cheaper and more efficient option for washing and drying clothes in your home.
Electric Washer and Dryer
Electric Washer dryers tend to run up higher energy bills than their gas counterparts. In general, you are better off using a gas model than an electric one if possible. However, if you do not have access to a gas line, or gas is particularly expensive in your area, you may want to consider this type of washer dryer.
