Do your own epoxy garage floor installation. Epoxy provides a professional-looking coating that withstands heavy traffic and can last a long time.
Steps for Installation
- Clean the floor. First sweep up dust and debris with a regular broom, and follow with a wet solution.
- Mix the etching solution according to the instructions on the package.
- Divide your garage floor into manageable sections that you will treat one at a time. Be sure you have a way to get out of the room!
- Wet the floor and apply the etching agent to one section and scrub with a broom. This will prepare the floor for the epoxy to sit properly. Let it set for the number of hours indicated on the package, and then rinse.
- Apply concrete primer.
- Prepare the epoxy solution according to the directions. You may have to mix in a hardener.
- Apply the solution section by section as you did while etching. Do this step quickly, before the hardener sets. Make sure that you cover the entire floor, including the edges of the walls.
- While the solution is still wet, spread vinyl chips over the floor. Let everything settle and dry for 24 hours.
- Apply the clear top coat using a roller. Pay special attention to edges and corners.
- Wait 7 days before you start using the garage again.
