Ergonomic Keyboard

by DoItYourself Staff

An ergonomic keyboard can be found anywhere. There are literally hundreds of ergonomic keyboards on the market. Rather than buy one though, you can actually make your own keyboard more like an ergonomic keyboard. There are several steps you can take to ensure your keyboard is similar to an ergonomic keyboard.

  • Position – This is the biggest factor you can control with your keyboard. Many times users just place their keyboard wherever they can and don’t think about the ergonomics behind it. When placing your keyboard make sure to put it into a comfortable position. Most importantly when positioning your ergonomic keyboard you want your wrists to be level and not bent when typing.
  • Placement of the Keyboard – The placement of the keyboard is also very important. You want your keyboard to be placed on an area that was designed for a keyboard. Try avoiding placing the keyboard on the desk or on your lap.
  • Ergonomic Keyboard Tray – This may be the easiest solution for your keyboard. An ergonomic keyboard tray is designed to comfort your wrists when you type by taking the strain off of your muscles.

Don’ts with Ergonomic Keyboards

  • Don’t place the keyboard on the desk.
  • Don’t bend your wrists when typing on the keyboard.
  • Don’t be uncomfortable when using your ergonomic keyboard.
