Ergonomic Laptop
Making a laptop into an ergonomic laptop can be quite a task. Laptops are designed to be portable and small and therefore are not built to be ergonomic. When making your own ergonomic laptop there are several small adjustments that can be made.
- Determine your tasks – This will help you decide where you should place your ergonomic laptop. If you are simply reading, then you can place the laptop in a normal ergonomic monitor position. If you are typing then you can set up the laptop in the normal ergonomic keyboard position. Finally, if it’s a combination of both, you should set the ergonomic laptop up in the keyboard position. This is because the neck and back muscles are larger and can take more stress then the arms and wrists.
- Docking Station – The best solution is to have a station where you can connect everything to the ergonomic laptop. This includes a separate monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
Main Issues when Creating an Ergonomic Laptop
Since a laptop is designed to be portable, there are a few challenges when trying to make it an ergonomic laptop.
- Small Mouse – Laptops usually have a touchpad or dot which can become uncomfortable after long periods of time.
- Monitor Placement – Since it’s attached to the keyboard it’s hard to have both be set right.
- Monitor Size – Since laptop monitors are smaller, they usually cause more eye strain.
