Fish Tape

Fish tape is a tool used to fish cables and wires through walls. A long metal wire unwinds and can be attached to the wires that need to be pulled through. Many people use them for hooking up new entertainment systems.

  • Step 1: Drill a hole through the studs you are passing through. The hole should be twice the diameter of the wires you plan to pull through it.
  • Step 2: Straighten out the wires that need to be pulled through and make sure there aren’t any knots.
  • Step 3: Push the fish tape through the opposite side of your hole until it comes out by your cables.
  • Step 4: Tape the cables to the fish tape and pull them through. Pulling the cables through may take a little while because you have to make sure that they don't fall off of the fish tape.

Double Fish Tape

Sometimes you may need to use two fish tapes to get the job done. The hooks on the ends can be used to catch each other and pull them in odd directions. If you are particularly skilled you can hook a buzzer to the fish tape to help you hear when the two ends meet.
