Fixing Cracks in Glass Entry Doors

Cracks in glass entry doors do not necessarily spell the end of the door. Depending on the size of the crack, type of glass and construction of the door, you may be able to repair the crack quite easily with a windshield glass repair kit. These kits work by injecting a vinyl or epoxy resin into the crack to strengthen and repair it. Most auto parts stores sell these kits fairly inexpensively. Be sure to read through the instructions before purchasing teh kit to make sure it will work for your glass entry door.

Steps to Fixing a Cracked Glass Entry Door

Step 1 Clean the glass around the crack and let it dry thoroughly before beginning your repair.

Step 2 Follow the manufacturer’s directions carefully for the specific glass repair kit that you purchased. Apply the bridges or vacuum sealer over the crack and allow the vinyl or resin to set under the right conditions.

Step 3 Once the filler is dry; remove the excess from around the repair crack carefully.

If the crack in your glass entry doors is beyond the repair kit specifications, or is in a pressure or load-bearing area, you will need to replace the glass. But if detected right away, most small cracks in your glass entry doors can be effectively repaired using an auto glass windshield crack repair kit.
