Key Secrets to Building a Flat Screen TV Cabinet

by DoItYourself Staff

Building a flat screen TV cabinet can enhance the stylishness of your room by concealing the television in a cabinet when not in use. A lift mechanism inside the cabinet enables the TV to ascend out of and descend into the cabinet.

Steps to Building a Flat Screen TV Cabinet

  1. Purchase an "assembly required" cabinet whose width will accommodate your television, and build only the frame.
  2. Purchase a pop-up TV lift.
  3. Cut a rectangle in the top of the cabinet to allow for the full ascension of the lift and TV.
  4. Install hinges to connect the cabinet to the flap that will open when the television rises.
  5. Mount the lift inside the cabinet, noting that you may need to reinforce a particle board cabinet with a piece of wood between it and the base of the lift.
  6. Cut the faces off of the cabinet drawers and attach them to the front of the cabinet by nailing them from either the back or front.
  7. Use the included universal TV mount to attach the television to the lift.
  8. Plug the power box into the wall and test the lift with the included remote control.
