Flat-Panel TV Wall Mount Tips

by DoItYourself Staff

To save space and still locate your flat-panel TV where it is the most viewable, try installing a flat-panel TV wall mount. Here are a few tips that will help you install it.

Match VESA Numbers

You'll need to purchase a mounting bracket whose VESA number will be compatible with your new wall mount VESA type. Check your TV owner’s manual to get the VESA number.

Choose Your Type of Wall Mount

You'll have three choices of wall mounts:

  • Flat: Your TV will be positioned flat against the wall, almost as if it's a picture hung on the wall
  • Tilting: With this mount you'll be able to tilt your TV at an up or down angle, so you can install it at a higher location on the wall.
  • Articulating: This is the most versatile of the mount types, allowing you to swivel, rotate or tilt your TV

Choose the Best Location

Pick a place on the wall that will be the best location. You should consider some of the following factors when picking your location: the correct screen height for best viewing, screen glare, cable routing and the location of wall studs.
