Full Spectrum Fluorescent Grow Lights

by DoItYourself Staff

Full-spectrum fluorescent grow lights are available for use of plant growers who prefer working with their plants indoors. The full-spectrum fluorescent grow lights are popular because they offer almost the full range of light necessary from the sun under normal outdoors growing cycle.

Standard vs. Full Spectrum Fluorescent Grow Lights

Early plant growth or starting seedlings requires a different spectrum of light. It is possible to get fluorescent grow lights for almost each of the needed spectrum's. These lights can be purchased in either normal fluorescent tubes or in any configuration that is available such as spiral or circular. The standard everyday fluorescent tube can be used for plant growth but they don't cover the full spectrum of light. For this the full-spectrum fluorescent grow light is required. These give off 75 to 80 percent of the spectrum given by the sun when outdoors. These are excellent for the long periods of light often needed for early plant growth.

Considering Cost

Both High Output and compact fluorescent grow lights have a serviceable life span of about ten thousand hours. The cost of full-spectrum fluorescent grow lights can vary from about $3 to $15 depending on location, product availability and choice.
