Gas Dryer: Troubleshooting Common Problems
Here’s a quick list of common dryer problems and a few gas dryer troubleshooting those problems.
Won’t Run
Check to make sure the power is working properly. Check the plug, and then check the breaker.
No Flame on Gas Dryer
Newer gas valves have a gas valve coil, which opens the gas valve. If either the gas valve or gas valve coil are defective the igniter will glow hot but it will fail to ignite. If the igniter is defective it will be unable to ignite the gas. Replace components after you have determine the problem.
No Heat
The heating element could be bad. A bad heating element does not may burn out without ever tripping the breaker. Check the element.
In a gas dryer the flame sensor can become defective causing the gas to prematurely shut off. With electric coils that are failing they can cause the gas to shut off.
Dryer Won’t Tumble
Your gas dryer has this problem should include a check of the drive belt, which rotates the drum. If the belt breaks or is slipping your dryer won’t tumble. If the motor is only making a humming sound it may be burned out. Y
Dryer is Noisy
Check the rollers, which can wear out over time. Your gas dryer troubleshooting should also include checking the idler pulley, which provides the drive belt with tension, and the glides, which are the supports at the front of the drum.
