Green Clothing

by DoItYourself Staff

Green clothing is becoming more readily available and mainstreamed into today’s clothing market.  Green clothing made from organic cotton, is natural, soft, comfortable, easy to care for and to top it all off, it is very environmental friendly.  Wool is still the natural for warmth, water resistance and durability.

Determining the Best Value in Green Clothing

  • Keep in mind that the easiest and least expensive way to go green when thinking of your closet is to keep and wear the clothes you already have.  No additional costs are involved and processing of the materials has already taken place.
  • Reduce the amount of your laundry.  This will save time, money and will be good to the planet by using less water, as well as saving it from the pollution caused by detergents.
  • Repair rather than replace.  Sew on a patch if needed.  Consider double elbows and knees.
  • Don’t be a slave to fashion trends.  This means you will wear what you have longer, even if it is not the latest style.
  • Recycle as much of your clothing as you can.  Reuse buttons, cut fabric into cleaning clothes and other rags.

The use of green clothing may not seem like much, but if everyone employed the tips above it would go a long way in keeping our landfills cleaner, and our planet healthier.
