Green Coffee

Green coffee is coffee which is grown in conditions that are friendly to the environment and to the workers who grow the coffee. Green coffee is coffee which comes out of growing conditions where sustainability and green, environmentally friendly practices have been used. Green coffee shouldn’t be confused with green, or raw, coffee beans.

Green Coffee as a Commodity

After oil, coffee is the most traded commodity in the world. It therefore is the second most trade commodity worldwide. Coffee demand and consumption, being so huge, has led to rainforest clearing, to make room to grow coffee. Green coffee is often called shade-grown coffee, since it is grown in conditions that are within the existing environment, under trees.

Coffee grows well and fast in the sun. Green coffee doesn’t grow as fast as coffee which is grown on a larger, industrial scale. To grow coffee, rainforests are often cleared, and it produces an ideal environment for the coffee, but not the rainforest. Green coffee grows under the canopy of larger trees. Green coffee is often preferred by connoisseurs, and in asking for green coffee, you will be promoting more green coffee growth.
