Green collar jobs are any jobs in the new economy that are environmentally friendly. The term green collar jobs is a play on the more well known and established terms white collar and blue collar jobs.

Green collar jobs involve renewable energy, energy saving design, energy efficiency in manufacturing, jobs concerning such newly emerging technologies such as wind power, bio-fuel, hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, bio-diesel vehicles, solar power, methane gas production from animal waste, and other technologies. 

Green Collar Jobs in the Near Future

Green collar jobs are currently being promoted by business and advocates of the environment as the wave of the future. As technologies develop, more and more jobs will be designated as green collar jobs. The green collar job sector is currently the fifth largest market sector in the United States. Worldwide, depending on the country, that percentage is even higher.

Concerns about global warming, petroleum fuel costs, and availability of petroleum fuels for the future all contribute to the rapid growth of green collar jobs in the marketplace. Many young workers wishing to be viable in a 21st century job marketplace are familiarizing themselves with education and experience needed for green collar jobs.
