Use Monounsaturated or Polyunsaturated Fats

While the overall goal of a heart healthy diet plan is to eat less fat, the fats that you do consume should consist of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, such as the ones found in olive, peanut and canola oil. Trans fats and saturated fats, such as those in butter, ready-to-eat snacks, fried foods and desserts,  are the hardest to break down and therefore, tend to clog up your arteries, putting strain on the heart and reducing energy levels.

Increase energy by eating complex carbohydrates found in whole grains and vegetables while cutting back on simple carbs such as sugar, sodas and desserts.

Focus on Fish

According to the American Heart Association, one should eat two servings of Omega-3 fatty acid rich fish, such as salmon,  every week. Not only is fish a wonderful source of animal protein but since it is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, it can help reduce risk of heart disease as well.

Drink Enough Water

Staying hydrated with plain water is important to keeping the heart healthy and increasing energy levels. Dehydration puts stress on the heart and also, leads to feelings of fatigue, exhaustion and irritability. Avoid reaching out for the cup of coffee and instead, sip on water when you need to boost your energy.

Get Enough Exercise
