How the High Gloss Look is Achieved
The high gloss laminate flooring emulates the luster of its hardwood counterparts using digital photography. The technology allows manufacturers to reproduce a much wider range of colors than older printers. This, in turn, allows them to create images that are virtually indistinguishable from real hardwood. The images are printed on the film layer that is placed between the flooring’s core and the transparent resin membrane. The membrane protects the print layer from dirt, burns and scratches.
Maintaining the Shine
While high gloss laminate flooring is fairly resistant to damage, it tends to lose its shine over time. The process of deterioration is, unfortunately, inevitable and irreversible. However there are several ways to keep it at bay. They include:
- Sweep and Vacuum Regularly– If left unchecked, dirt and debris can leave tiny scratches that will dull the surface. That is why the floors should be swept and vacuumed once a day or, at the very least, once a week.
- Avoid Cleaning Chemicals – Chemical cleaners, from sprays to mechanical mops such as the Swiffer, leave behind a residue that diminishes the floor’s luster. You can remove the residue using a cloth dipped in vinegar. It’s a long process, but the results are worth it. To avoid further accumulation of the residue, use a wet towel or a cloth-stripped mop to clean the flooring.
- Don't Use Waxes and Polishes - They are designed to work with wood and stone, not resin. While applying it wouldn't cause anything adverse, it wouldn't do much good either.
