As Thanksgiving approaches, stress levels raise and remain at a higher level until after New Year's. Because of this, time spent with family and friends isn't as enjoyable as it should be. Instead of taking time to relax, we constantly think of all we have to do. Cleaning the house, decorating, preparing holiday menus, cooking and shopping for food and gifts - is there any doubt as to why the holiday season is the most stressful time during the entire year? Use these tips to reduce the stress of the holidays and take time to enjoy the finer things in life.

Make a To-Do List
A to-do list will help you to get a great deal accomplished during the holiday season. Highlight the things that absolutely have to be done and put them first on the agenda. These chores are usually the most difficult, so it's best to get them out of the way first.

By making a to-do list, you don't have to remember all of the tasks that have to be done. This reduces stress because it ensures you will easily remember the chores that you're responsible for.

Organization
Organize everything from your kitchen baking needs to a gift-wrapping nook. Being organized makes tasks easier to complete. Use plastic baskets or containers to store decorations and wrapping supplies. Be sure to keep a large trash can handy to alleviate mess.

In the kitchen, be sure to organize your baking supplies so they are at your fingertips. This makes baking much easier. Organize cupboards, pots and pans and other cooking equipment so you can find things easily.

Recruit Help
Instead of trying to do everything yourself, allot tasks to other family members. This will ease stress levels because you will be responsible for less.

If it's your turn to host the Christmas dinner, ask those who will be attending to help. Make the affair potluck or ask guests to bring an appetizer or dessert. Invite guests to come early to help set the table and take-up the food.

Budget
Make a budget and don't go over the limit. If you overspend, it will cause you a high level of stress. Know exactly what you can afford for decorations, food and gifts. Be sure to set aside a small amount for unexpected expenses. That gives you something to fall back on if a problem should arise. Ask family members to write a wish list for gifts that are within your price range.

If you have a large family, consider drawing names. This can be done at a Thanksgiving family gathering to ensure everyone has ample time to search out the perfect gift. Set a reasonable price limit for gifts.

Disposable Cameras
Don't take it upon yourself to be responsible for all photos taken at the family dinner. Place disposable cameras strategically throughout the house and inform guests that they're welcome to catch a few precious moments. Candid photography usually gets the best shots and you'll be amazed at what you see when the photos are developed.

Control
Take control but don't overdo it. You can’t make everyone happy, so don't even try. Be firm with others who expect you to do everything. Make them take responsibility for certain tasks instead of taking advantage. If you have trouble saying no, it is even more reason to stand firm during the holidays.

Use the tips in this article to keep holiday stress at a minimum. This will give you time to spend with family and friends - time you can relax and enjoy the holiday season.
