Home Automation Security System Features

by DoItYourself Staff

Home automation security systems were once featured only in science fiction films, these days though they are commonly found in homes. What's more they actually work pretty well. Both home automation and security systems have been around for quite some time so it makes sense to combine the two. A home automation security system has a number of different features which make it a real advantage to fit and install.

Remote Control

Many home automation systems come with remote control systems. Remote controls make it very easy to control various appliances and also set the alarm without needing to enter codes. Some of the more recent systems use RFID technology to sense your presence in a house without needing to enter a code or even use a key.

The remove controls can be used as a way of turning on appliances and lights anywhere in your house even if you're no where near them. This will make controlling the appliances in your home much easier and also reduce the need for fitting new switches anywhere in your home.

X10 Home Automation

X10 home automation is one of the leading systems which is used for home automation. This is one of the easiest systems to install because it does not require the use of any additional wiring. The X10 appliances are simply fitted into electrical outlets, the X10 modules use the existing wiring in your home.

When you use the X10 system to turn something on the module sends a signal down the wiring in your home which then tells the other module to turn on. These modules can be controlled by computer software, remotes and also simple timers.

Computer Control

X10 home automation systems can be connected very easily to computer control software. This means that you can use the software to set up complex rules and timers which can be used as a way of controlling when certain appliances and lights turn on. This also means that you can log into the home automation systems remotely to control what is on and what is switched off.

Cameras

Many home automation security systems feature cameras which can be looked at from anywhere in the world. This means that it's possible to log into the security system and take a look at whatever is on the camera. This will make it possible to have a look at what's happening when the alarm in your house is set off. If it's a false alarm then you can cancel and re-set the alarm from anywhere in the world.

If there is a cause for concern then you will be able to store a copy of the video and alert the police. This should make it very simple to find out whenever there is a reason for concern.

Alarm

Of course, these home automation alarms also function as regular alarms and can be used in exactly the same way. They can be armed and disarmed by entering a code as normal.
