For a cheerful and stylish appearance try several different types of sheers or light colored panels on one window. For example, use white sheers in the center of the window, with khaki sheers around them and a blue or green panel on the outside. Three coordinated panels on one window looks both fashionable and fun, and by using lighter materials you have created a more festive summer feeling. 

You may be able to find window treatments or throw pillows that have sparkly, decorative accents on them.  These can add a touch of interest to any room as long as you don’t use too many (more than four 'sparkly' items in one room is too many).

Summer Decorations

Did you put your holiday lights away?  Quick, go get them.  You can use these lights indoors or outdoors for a cheerful year round room accessory. Simply drape the lights around a window, fireplace or large plant and leave them out for the summer. For the fourth of July holiday place American flags in vases and use as centerpieces.

Moderately Easy Festive Summer Ideas

If you are feeling a need for a more dramatic change this summer, paint the walls. Even if you use the same color you will have a fresh, clean look to your rooms. If your rooms are dark and you want to lighten the wall color, use earth tones such as khaki or sage. This will neutralize a room and make it easier to decorate for any season.

If painting an entire room is a bigger remodeling activity than you planned, choose just one piece to paint.  Perhaps you can freshen up a bookcase, table or the front door. Whatever piece you choose to paint will help make a room feel brighter.
