Home Security System: Wireless Internet Required?

by DoItYourself Staff
Unlike traditional wired security systems a home security system wireless setup allows you to utilize any number of different components. This is because the wireless counterparts do not require the installation of any type of wiring. Components such as wireless motion detectors, wireless alarms and wireless cameras can all be used as part of a wireless security system.

Is Wireless Internet Required for Wireless Security?

Some, but not all, models of wireless security devices are designed to integrate with a computer through the use of an existing wireless network. Others are designed to function completely independently of a wireless Internet connection or even a computer.

Is Wireless Security Safe?

Wireless security systems will provide protection in most situations but they can and do suffer from several weaknesses. To avoid the use of wires wireless home security systems are powered by batteries. Failing to replace these batteries can lead to the security system failing. In addition, wireless jamming devices and even signals from standard wireless devices such as wireless phones can lead to interference, which can cause problems with a wireless security system.
