Home Theater Room Design on a Budget

by DoItYourself Staff

Entertainment is a serious business and home theater room design is a subset of that business. Companies that sell televisions, DVD players and media do a lot of research and development into what will make a home theater room design more plausible and affordable. There are a lot of companies that are looking for your money and with the economy in a downturn they need to provide cheaper solutions. There are things that you can shop for that will help give you a great home theater you can be proud of. This article will offer several ideas for a home theater room design that will not break the bank.

Theater Seating

There are places where you can purchase seating that you would find in Hollywood screening theaters. They will be several seats to a row, stadium seating, cup holder and covered in leather. These are great and will really make for a great home theater room design. The only problem is that they can cost several thousand dollars for just two seats. You can get the same feel and comfort by purchasing normal recliners. They may even be nice because you can put your feet up. You can purchase them from large warehouse stores or even secondhand shops and you can refinish them.

Television

Bigger is not always better and some technology is just not worth the money. There are several companies that are now creating very inexpensive flatscreen televisions complete with high definition. You used to have to pay over $1,500 for a 42-inch television but now you can get them for $400, which is a considerable savings. There are other companies that are creating outdoor home theater systems which include a digital projector, speakers, DVD player and blowup screen. The cheapest one costs a little over $1,500 but it includes all the components and the screen is 9x5 feet.

Lighting

Home theater room design often relies on the lighting to really set the mood. The room needs to be dark but with flatscreen televisions there needs to be a little light in order to get the most out of the picture. Lamps are often obtrusive as well as too bright. An inexpensive solution is to use rope lights. These lights are easily available around Halloween but most party stores carry them all year round. Purple or orange rope lights are perfect because it is subdued lighting. With some wood, a saw and a hammer you can easily create thing light boxes that run the perimeter of the ceiling. The rope lights are places inside these boxes. Rope lights can also be cut without damaging them.

Buying Components

A successful home theater room design often hinges on your other components. The television is one thing but a good DVD player and sound system tie it all together into a great home theater room design. There is little need in purchasing the best of the best in DVD players or surround sound systems. You can build up to that point when they come down in price.
