Homemade Dry Food Storage Tips

by DoItYourself Staff

Proper dry food storage will ensure your dry goods remain fresh for years to come. These foods can be anything you have personally dried, cake mixes, crackers, flour, canned goods, and seasonings.

Dry food storage involves putting all your dry staples in tightly sealed containers. You would keep the original packages intact, and simply place them in the airtight containers.

Optimally the temperature they are stored at will be 50 degrees Fahrenheit to 70 degrees Fahrenheit and never more than 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

You will want your humidity levels in your dry food storage area to be less than 60%. Humidity levels that are higher than that can cause the food to became caked or stale. Always store your non-food items such as paper products or household cleaners away from your dry food storage to ensure contamination does not become an issue.
