Homemade Glass Cleaning Solution
Rather than purchasing commercial glass cleaning products, which are overpriced and not environmentally friendly, many families have begun making their own glass cleaning solution. The majority of necessary ingredients can be found in your pantry and the solution can be stored for future cleaning.
For general window and glass cleaning, a solution of vinegar and water works well. In a spray bottle, combine 3 tablespoons of vinegar per 1 quart of water. Shake the bottle well to mix the solution.
For more advanced cleaning solutions, additional ingredients can be added. To create a solution that will evaporate easier, mix 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, 1 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Mix the solution by shaking the bottle. When a stronger glass cleaning solution is needed, non-sudsing ammonia can be added. In this case, the solution would consist of 1 cup rubbing alcohol, 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon non-sudsing ammonia. Mix the solution by shaking the bottle.
When cleaning windows and glass, spray the glass cleaning solution and use crumbled newspaper to wipe the solution away. Using crumbled newspaper instead of paper towels will minimize the amount of streaks that remain after cleaning.
