If you're setting up a home office, take the time to consult current IRS rules--the last thing you want is to get nailed by an auditor. For example, the area should serve exclusively as an office, not as a guest bedroom or recreation room.

You'll have to carefully consider your approach to storage. One possibility: gradually increase the shelving as needed by using wall mounted brackets with laminated shelves. Likewise, stackable heavy-plastic storage containers can double as filing cabinets to keep your paper work in easily-expandable order.

If clients are visiting with you at your home, is an entrance marked and plainly visible. You will generally not get credit for shared or multiu use space.
