Track lighting may be connected by adding a new ceiling box or by using an adapter cord that reaches to an existing receptacle. In a new addition, you may find placing a ceiling box more advantageous, since you need not hide the cord.

Screw the mounting bracket into the electrical box. Push the wires of the electrical connector through the slot in the track connector; then through the slot in the box adapter. Now attach the wires to those in the box, matching colored wires and using the appropriate screw nuts. Push the wires up into the electrical box. Attach the two-piece mounting assembly to the box tabs.
Hold a ruler flat against the ceiling (or wall) so that one edge of the ruler is lined up with the center slot on the track connector. Using the ruler as your guide, draw a line along the ceiling (or wall) from this slot as long as necessary, to where the track will end. Make marks at even intervals on the penciled line to indicate the attachment positions of the clips that will hold the track. Hold the clips in position, mark and drill pilot holes in the ceiling (or wall) at these points, and screw the clips in place. Partially insert the side screws into the clips. Then push the track wires firmly into the electrical connector and slide the track into the track connector. Tighten the side screws of the clips to hold the track in place. The connector cover will then easily snap In place to cover the wires.
