How can I add vents to my fireplace hearth?

by DoItYourself Staff

There are two kind of vents you can add to your fireplace hearth, depending on the type of fireplace you have. You can add a direct vent, by installing additional piping to direct air out the top or back of an existing fireplace with a natural vent. You can also install a "B" vent, in an existing natural (vertical) chimney. The "B" vent is so-called because of the name of the piping used for the vent. You may also change your heating or fuel source from pellet or wood to propane, ethanol or natural gas, and create a vent-less fireplace.
