How can I clean mildew off of vinyl flooring?

by DoItYourself Staff

If mildew is allowed to grow on vinyl flooring, it can damage the floors, cause odors and even possibly break the foundation underneath the flooring. It is therefore extremely important to clean the mildew. Before starting to clean the mildew, make sure you are protected by covering skin that could come in contact with the mildew while cleaning, such as your hands and forearms, and by wearing a mask to ensure you do not breath it in. To actually clean away the mildew, use bleach—assuming that windows can be opened to ventilate the room. If the room does not have windows or any ventilation, use vinegar; the acidity in the vinegar will combat the mildew of the vinyl flooring.
