How can I install a ceiling fan on a vaulted ceiling?

by DoItYourself Staff

Make sure that the circuit breaker is turned off, before installing a ceiling fan on your vaulted ceiling. Locate a ceiling joist to attach the fan to. Then cut a portion of the drywall ceiling. This is where the electrical box of the fan will go through, but you need to locate a joist in order to secure the box. A down rod is attached to the electrical box once it is fastened. Wiring coming from the box will then be routed through the down rod and out the bottom. The motor of the fan should then be secured to the down rod, and attach all wiring to it. Attach the blades of the fan and turn it on. Make sure that the blades are low enough so as not to hit the vaulted ceiling.
