How Do I Use a Silver Cleaning Plate?

by DoItYourself Staff

To use a silver cleaning plate, first find a metal container or pot large enough to fit the plate and your silver. If you have an aluminum sink, this will work as well. Just be sure to put a plastic mat in the bottom so the cleaning plate is not touching the bottom. Add very hot water to the container or sink. Next, add 3 full teaspoons of sodium bicarbonate per gallon of water. You can get this ingredient grocery store. Place the silver pieces in the solution for 3 to 4 minutes. You will see the tarnish disappear. Remove, rinse and polish with a soft cloth.
