How does aluminum siding cost compare to steel siding?

by DoItYourself Staff

Aluminum siding is almost the least expensive siding for a homeowner, with the exception of vinyl. Aluminum siding costs about $3.00 to $5.50 per square foot, while steel siding costs about $7.00 to $8.00 per square foot. However, steel may cost more depending on the types of windows and doors the homeowner installed.

Steel needs shaping and contouring to go around the various aspects of the house. Since the material must be manipulated to fit, it may up the cost of installation. Steel siding is more durable, easier to maintain and does not dent as easily as aluminum siding.
