How does an ABS Wheel Sensor Work?

by DoItYourself Staff

The ABS wheel sensor is a significant component of the anti-lock brake system in a car. The purpose of the sensor is to determine how fast the car is going. It has a magnet in it with a coil wound around the outside. When the wheel turns, it creates an alternating current. This current varies depending on how fast the wheel is going. The current then goes into an ABS control module. The module can interpret the current to determine exactly how fast the car is going. This is very important information if you suddenly hit the brakes.
