How Installing An Exhaust Fan Timer Saves Money

by DoItYourself Staff

An exhaust fan timer will have many benefits for your home. Exhaust fans can be installed in basements, attics, bathrooms and even kitchens. A timer will let the fan run for a certain amount of time and then automatically shut off.

Unattended Bathrooms

It’s a habit for many people to leave the fan on as a convenience to the next user, but the constantly running fan can wreak havoc on your electric bills. A timer will eliminate this. You can install a timer that will automatically shut the fan off after a designated amount of time, like 5 or 10 minutes. This will take up a lot less energy than letting it run for hours at a time.

Attics and Basements

Many people use exhaust fans in their basements and attics to help prevent humidity from causing problems with mold and rot. While this is a great way to save your home's structure, it’s also a great way to increase your energy bills. A timer that allows the fan to run for only 10 minutes of every hour will save a lot of energy, but still let the fan serve its purpose.
