How many coats of paint should I use when painting formica countertops?

by DoItYourself Staff

Painting Formica countertops is a rather time-consuming job. It's not hard; it's just time-consuming. Countertop professionals believe that the minimum number of times you should paint your newly refinished Formica countertop is four. The good news is they also believe that you can easily use a readily available product like Krylon. The type of Krylon depends on your taste; if you want a high-gloss finish then use a high-gloss Krylon; for low-gloss, use a low-gloss. Between each painting you should also seal the countertop so that it is sealed properly. Krylon makes not only primer but also sealer paints that you can use to complete the job.
