How should I space my kitchen recessed lighting?
Kitchen recessed lighting can be a puzzle to design. You need to consider several factors when planning the lighting layout.
- Recessed lighting used in task areas such as over a sink, counter top or stove should be spaced no more than 5 feet apart for ultimate coverage. This also depends upon what size bulb you use in the recessed lights.
- Recessed lighting in open areas of the room such as in the center and over eating areas and breakfast bar are considered to be ambient lighting and the light doesn't need to be as intense.
- Consider your ceiling heights when designing recessed lighting for your kitchen. High or vaulted ceilings need more intense light as it must travel further to the surface.
