Kitchen cabinet lighting adds a nice touch to the kitchen by bringing a touch of class to it and setting it apart from other standard kitchens. It is functional and decorative and brightens up the workspace. It also creates an inviting mood. There are basically two types of kitchen cabinet lighting. One of them is the under-cabinet lighting. This helps you in cleaning the kitchen at night and raiding the kitchen. The other is the in-cabinet lighting that is used for aesthetic reasons. This allows you to see the contents of the cabinet. While deciding on the option that you want to go in for, you may want to consider the amount of power that will be consumed. You can then accordingly go for puck lighting that offers brighter lighting or a strip of lights that offer a gentle glow.
Step 1: Plan and Buy
Visit a shop that offers lighting system solutions and decide whether you want to go for a puck light system kit or light strings. Purchase the accessories according to the lighting system that you have decided to go in for. While doing this, keep in mind the number of cabinets that there are in the kitchen. Read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Gather together all the equipment that would be required during the installation process.
Step 2: Clean Workspace and Clear Cabinets
Clean the kitchen countertop workspace and remove all the items from there. Remove all the items from inside the cabinets also. Keep the articles in the same order safely somewhere so that when putting them back, there is no confusion as to which article needs to go in which cabinet.
Step 3: Power Supply Connection
To connect the lighting system to the power supply, you should be able to run the wires through the space available between the cabinets. If there is not enough space, holes may need to be drilled so that the wires can be run through them and ultimately connected to the power supply.
Step 4: Drilling Holes
Plan to place the lights under or in the kitchen cabinets as suggested by the manufacturer. Mark the places with a pencil where the lights will need to be affixed. Drill the holes at the marked places with a hole saw bit and adapter.
Step 5: Install the Light
Install the lights by putting them next to the marked holes with screws.
Step 6: Test the Lights
To connect the power, plug in the connector body over the pre-installed pins and push them until they snap into position. Finish mounting and assembling the rest of the fixtures. Plug in the wires to see that they work properly. If not, check the connection to the power plug.
Step 7: Restock the Kitchen Cabinet
When everything is installed and is in working order, the kitchen cabinets can also be restocked with the items that had been set aside previously.
