How to Adjust the Control on a Light Switch Timer

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Light Switch Controller
  • Manual

A timer control on a light switch is a great convenience for people who are away at certain times of the day. The timer can automatically turn the lights off when they leave, or on just before they get home. A light switch timer is also a great security feature for when a homeowner is not home for an extended period of time. It can turn the lights on during the evening to keep burglars away.

Step 1: Read Manual

Be familiar with how the timer control works and what the different buttons do. This will ensure that you can set the timer correctly.

Step 2: Determine Times For Lights to Operate

Before setting the control for the light switch make sure you know what times you will want it to turn the lights on and off at. Once you get ready to set the control you will not have to start over by entering wrong times.

Step 3: Set Control on Light Switch

Depending on the type of light timer you have there will be different configurations as to the exacts in setting the control. However, the majority of timers have a knob that you turn to 'SET'. Then you set the individual knobs to certain times during each day. After that, turn the knob back to 'RUN' for the changes to take affect.
