Creativity can be expressed in no better way than by a flower arrangement in a bouquet. Bouquets can come handy in a variety of situations, and with a little know-how you can make a gorgeous arrangement in no time. Not only will that save costs considerably, but you will hone artistic skills that otherwise lie dormant. Below are steps on how to make a skillful composition of flowers.

Step 1: Important Flower Arrangement Considerations

Different flowers and their colors signify different meanings. Before choosing which flowers to use in your bouquet, make sure you know what the occasion is. Party flowers, wedding flowers, a bouquet to celebrate a birth, or one to condole a death will each require different flowers to express the specific feeling.

Typically an accented bouquet will have main flowers whose color coordinates with that of the theme, and smaller flowers that are lighter in shade than the main ones. You can make the different types of flowers stand together to get an idea of how well they match.

Step 2: Picking Appropriate Colors

When selecting colors of the flowers, pick those that contrast well together. A uni-color bouqet is limited in its appeal. A better option is to pick similar flowers of different colors, or different flowers of similar hues. Popular flower types that you can consider are carnations, rosebuds, lilies, roses, miniature rose buds and lily of the valley. You can also invest in greenery, ivy being a popular choice, to give the bouquet personality.

Step 3: Pre-planning the Number and Height of the Flowers

Before you begin to arrange the bouquet, decide on the number that is to be included in the bouquet. You can use a picture of an arrangement or even a blueprint to give you an idea. An important consideration is the height of the stems.

The general rule for cutting is short flowers for a small bouquet and a larger, cascading bouquet which is made by longer stems. You will also need to cut the bushes off the flower stems.

Step 4: Arranging the Flowers in the Bouquet

You cannot go wrong with a circular arrangement. Place the main focus flowers of the bouquet in the vase first. A good number you can start with is four of the same type of flowers. They can be arranged in the outer perimeter of the vase, to look like a cross. You can also arrange some greenery behind each flower.

You then take the focal flower of your arrangement and place it between the four outer flowers, in the center of the vase. Add another layer of four flowers surrounding the center flower. Then, you can go on to add the remaining flowers placing them in order of height, with the longer stems in the center and the shorter ones surrounding them. The arrangement, when viewed from the side, should look like it has three layers of flowers.

You can tweak the bouquet as you want, accessorizing it as you see fit. Your inexpensive and creative masterpiece is now complete.
