by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • A Strap
  • Fabric
  • Scissors
  • Velcro
  • Thread
  • Needle

One of the coolest things is to have your own mini DVD player. You can carry your mini DVD anywhere you go. However one of the setbacks is safety. You do not have a place to secure your DVD player and you do not have a way to carry it. So one of the best things is to add a strap to your mini DVD player. For this you will need a few tools and materials and a lot of imagination.

Step 1.- Figuring Out What Kind of Straps You Need

You need to figure out what you want to do with your straps. You can use your straps to secure your mini DVD player on the back of your seat while you are driving for the kids to watch. You can also use the strap to carry your mini DVD player. If you need the straps for your car you need to measure the diameter of the car seats. If you want the strap for you to carry your DVD player then make the strap 2 feet long.

Step 2.- Choosing the Fabric

This is the part where you can be creative and you can show off your individuality. You can buy a piece of fabric that is of your favorite color or you can get any fabric that you have laying around the house.

Step 3.- Making the straps

Cut a piece of fabric. For a regular strap cut 2 feet of fabric and make a strip of about 8 inches. Next fold the strip in half so it will be 4 inches wide. Make a marking to the mid point and then take one end and put it over the half mark, then do the other end. You can sew the middle with thread and needle.

Step 4.-Adding Velcro to the Mini DVD Player.

You need to determine where you want to place the Velcro. Determine where to put it so you can attach the Velcro to the mini DVD player. Cut 2 pieces of Velcro. Try to make them 2 by 2 inches. Attach two parts to the mini DVD player and then attach the other parts to the straps with thread and needle.

Step 5.- Attaching the Straps

If you do not want to make your own straps, you can get the straps from a hand bag, a back pack, or any other thing that has a strap. On the ends of the strap add Velcro with thread and needle. You can also add the Velcro on the DVD player and attach the straps to the mini DVD player. When attaching the Velcro to the mini DVD player, it is recommended that you clean the surface where you want to attach the Velcro to. You can use a damp cloth with water or alcohol to clean the surface. You need to let it dry before adhering the Velcro.
