How to Caulk Bathroom Countertops

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Utility knife
  • Scouring pad
  • Sponge
  • Bathroom caulk
  • Caulk gun

The caulk on your bathroom countertops gets a lot of wear and tear from standing water and harsh cleaning. Because of the water, it can also start to get moldy. It's really easy to replace the caulk, following a few simple steps.

Step 1: Removal of Old Caulk

Remove the old caulk. Use the utility knife to cut it away. Be sure to remove it all, so you have a smooth surface for applying the new caulk. After you have it all removed, take the scouring pad and clean thoroughly around all the surfaces to remove any leftover debris. Sponge away the debris and dry.

Step 2: Caulking

Load the tube of caulk into your caulk gun. Cut the tip of the caulk tube, and squeeze the caulk gun a few times to get the caulk to start coming out. Place the caulk gun at a 45 degree angle where you are going to caulk and squeeze with even pressure to apply. Work in one area at a time. After the caulk is applied, wet your finger and smooth the caulk evenly. Take a damp sponge and carefully go over it again so it becomes completely smooth. Wipe off any excess caulk and allow to dry. You're done!
